TIPS FOR COMPILING YOUR RESUME
-
Avoid italics and font sizes smaller than 12 point. Most companies as well as EPC scan resumes into a database and it is difficult for the scanner to decipher small fonts and italics.
-
If you are compiling a resume to submit to EPC, here are a few guidelines that will help us process your resume as fast as possible.
-
Avoid grids and lines on your resume. Although they can improve the appearance of your resume, they also pose a challenge to scanners.
-
Keep your resume to under two pages. This can be difficult, however, companies receive hundreds of resumes and managers can be turned off by ones that are lengthy. Many times it is good to have two different resumes, one that makes a 'first impression' that is under two pages and includes all keywords and a strong summary of experiences. Another as a follow up resume for companies who have expressed interest in your summary resume that offers more detail such as publications, interests, etc.
-
E-mail your resume if possible. It saves paper and postage and is already in electronic format so scanning can be avoided.
